COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course introduces student to oral translation and interpretation of text, written or spoken. The student is given an on-hand training in listening to texts and being able to translate them without any advance preparation. The basic skills for interpreting will be acquired through the mastery of exercises through copious practice. The interpretation segment of the course is designed to give students basic training in consecutive interpretation which tends to equip them to be able to play efficient role as an interpreter at social and religious gatherings and also, operate in working fields that are related to translation or interpretation.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the semester, the student will be able to;

 i) apply himself to the various modes of interpreting from one language to another in any given circumstance. ii) listen to a text and do a consecutive interpretation of such in a specified language. iii) listen to texts or speeches and do a simultaneous translation of such in writing. iv) work comfortably in translation related fields of assignment.
